Progress Reports
The Feralicious Day Uno!

- Ferlicious Progress Report!
The Feralicious has come out of captivity sprinting, with an impressive 93 workouts already posted, some early feat logging (some erroneously thanks to a soon-to-be-upgraded interface), and a slew of questions about what constitutes eating wild, and does watching an exercise video count as Cardio, Unplugged?
Awesome! Here at Social Workout HQ, we've been logging our squats and pushups ten at a time on our Feat progress pages, and otherwise reading your posts and comments admiringly. We've also called new Spirit Guides, and have been working over the finer points of your feat debates like so many vigilant Talmudic scholars. The upshot? Read on for today's challenge rulings, and standby for first Spirit Guide transmission....
Go Wild Rulings:
- No good: Anything in a can, or that has been shipped from far away in sealed plastic or paper. That includes beans.
- All good: Anything that you buy, including beans (most likely in bulk), from a local farmer.
- No good: CheezWiz or Cracker Barrel.
- All good: Cheese from local purveyor, who makes it him or herself at nearby-ish farm.
- No good: Store bought bread.
- All good: Bread made from local, hand ground flower (if you can find it....)
Cardio, Unplugged Rulings:
- No good: Any form of exercise video
- All good: Working out in your living room, to the sound of your breath, and rythmn of your heart.
Technical Notes:
- When entering numbers on your Feats Progress pages, please be careful to input the correct unit. If, for example, you are updating your Pull Ups count, keep in mind that the target you're aiming for is the number of times you complete your baseline number of reps. So, if you're baseline pull up count is eight, then you should log one "rep." for each eight pull ups you do.
- Why is it only Day One when it's really the second day of the challenge? Because you have to count Day Zero!

What about raw organic almonds in bulk from a health food store? And Quinnoa in bulk from same health food store?

Do you know hard this Go Wild is when vegan??? In March??? Do we have some leniency about where we get out beans? Or suggestions where to find beans from a local farmer in New York?

I saw the go wild feat as no processed foods rather than just eating local - I feel as long as you make the effort to do the best you can when it comes to making the right food choices, everything will be fine.

Yeah, that confused me too... I am with you gleam- I think I am just doing non processessed instead of local. And I can easily get dried non processed beans and nuts for my protien. Just hard when I have to focus on local.

@llaves - I'm just vego and its summer here and I thought it was hard - My first meal for this feat was roasted veggies which was good, but not high in protein. I considered doing it just for breakfast - having some fruit every day, but that's not great for the environment either... And I agree the problem is these days local is the only way you can find non-processed foods - no tofu, or canned or even dried beans or lentils. Good luck!!!

yeah, it is going to be interesting as I have to be very conscious of my protien intake in all my meals as I get pretty sick if I don't (and cranky). A locavore diet isn't very possible for me.
Last night I had veggies with rice, and now I am wondering if I failed cause the rice wasn't farmed by a local farmer- it came from India and was purchased at Trader Joe's

yeah - not processed vs local is not really the same thing. It seems this is more a local challenge not a not-processed one. I will have to re-think some of my game plans for this one.

I understood "eat wild" to be no processed food, as well. As I respect the move to eliminate plastic and support local farmers, I believe that the big picture is to focus on eating healthy foods that are from the Earth and provide rich nutrients and promote a healthy well being....no? How about a compromise?

yes i am not understanding why it all has to be local? i make an effort to eat local, including going out out of my way each week to hit up the nearest farmers market, but all they're stocking right now is kale and collards. they're supporting some small farmers by bringing in florida citrus, but that's not actually local. i will not be able to have healthful, complete meals if this is changed from "unprocessed" to "local".
i propose the rule of thumb be that you make the meal of single-ingredient foods.

I'll probs "go wild for breakfast" and just have an apple and the peanut butter grinded in the machine... it's not very "wild" though...I'm more interested in putting my efforts into getting that f'ing pull up done.

@sassletics - you and me both! I WILL do a pull-up by the end of the month!

Last night trainer guy made me get onto the pull-up bar (and he didn't even know this was in the realm of my consciousness - god does he know me or what?) Anyway, he was really trying to help me feel my lats and depress them (i think). The analogy he gave was if I was falling off the brooklyn bridge I'd want to pull myself up and live, or fall into the water and die. OY! Needless to say I died a thousand deaths last night! LOL
