The aftermath...

- It's like that, and that's the way it is.
I'm back from Lake Tahoe in a pretty sorry state after five days of really intense west coast riding.Because I'm just that fantastically klutzy, I fell quite badly my first day out, had to be lifted down the mountain via sled (probably the most shameful thing that can happen to any snowboarder - the sled ride of shame!). X-rays, percocet, and many tears later a diagnosis: rib fracture/bruise, abdominal contusion.
In summary, I am pretty fucked up, y'all. But did that stop me from riding? Of course not. I wrapped my ribs and did three more intense days of riding on the mountain because I am the master of bad decision making. And I am paying dearly for that. I have limited range of motion in my right shoulder, and yeah, those ribs are worse than ever.
To make matters worse, I came down with a sinus infection my last day in the mountains that has been making my life miserable. Coughing/sneezing with wonky ribs hurts.so.bad.

Do I regret the decisions made on my trip to keep riding while flipping the bird to doctor's orders? Not a bit. But it's time to deal with all that bad decision making and I'm paying the piper, big time. I'm proud of myself for keeping up with really advanced riders in really advanced conditions, and disappointed I couldn't push myself harder, but there were a lot of firsts on this trip and some breakthroughs, so it was worth it.
So, Feral Challenge, you and I are not meant to be because I won't be exercising again for the foreseeable future. What does this mean for my half marathon training? Nothing good. I tried to think of gym alternatives for my normal running and yoga workout but it comes down to this: I need to do nothing until it stops hurting. This is not the time to push myself. This is the time to try making good decisions for a while. This also means I will have more free time than I'll know what to do with and probably be very bored/antsy, but I have to get better FAST.
If anyone has ever dealt with the ribs thing or knows of any good remedies for the sinus infection (I'd rather not spend even more time in a doctor's office if I can help it), let me know, I'd be most appreciative.

Oh, so sorry! And the sled ride of shame -- terrible! For sinus infection, I will tell you that Sascha our landlord got over his winter congestion faster than any of us thanks to his powerful home brew: http://www.socialworkout.com/2010/02/12/lemon-ginger-garlic-pepper-winter-health-savior
Feel better soon!

For the ribs-sinus infection perfect storm, try hugging something squishy whenever you need to cough or sneeze. Stuffed animals are pretty much perfect in size/squishiness, but if you can't get away with that at work, a soft pillow or balled-up blanked works too.

Thanks so much you guys - I can't take percocet along with my sinus medication, so I've had to choose either being stuffed up or being in serious pain. I will definitely try both suggestions.
