Meditation Thickens Your Brain

Remember how we told you about the new research showing that daily meditation makes you mentally tough? Well, apparently mentally tough isn't all — a new study out today shows that meditation can actually alter the tissue in key areas of your brain, making you less sensitive to physical pain. In the study, scientists scanned the brains of meditators and non-meditators while simultaneously applying a heated plate to their skin. Meditators were less sensitive to the pain, and the parts of their cortex that lit up with the pain were notably thicker, which appears to explain the decreased pain sensitivity.
