Social Workout Acknowledges Existence of Facebook

- SW & FB!
After long consideration, the editors and tech staff of Social Workout have decided that Facebook is not a flash in the pan. We're pleased to announce, therefore, that we've connected Social Workout to Facebook. What does this mean? Effective immediately, Social Workout users with Facebook accounts will be able to publish their workout and general posts automatically to their Facebook newsfeed. Facebookers will also be able to see whichever of their FB friends are also SW users, and invite other Facebook friends to join the site, and to participate in challenges. Yay!
Of course, all of this is optional, and maximally configurable. If you want to make it happen, you should click on the blue "Facebook Connect" button which now appears on your user profile page. Please enjoy, and read on for more detailed explanation of the hows and whys....
"Cross posting" and invitations are a big part of the benefits to "Facebook Connecting" the site, but they're not all. Another advantage is that people new to Social Workout can now create a new account simply by clicking on the Facebook "Connect" button. We'll still ask them for an email, but this instantly creates a linked account, and let's them use their familiar Facebook username, a.k.a. their actual name. Hello real world!
Social Workout members please notice that there is a new "tab" at the top of your user profile page, called "Facebook Connect." Clicking on that tab will take you to a page which allows you to configure your Facebook settings, including NOT allowing your Facebook friends to see you on Social Workout, and unlinking your accounts once they've been linked.
This is just a first, small step in the direction of social networking bliss, and we hope everyone enjoys the functionality. We're eager to get your feedback, however, and to answer your questions. To get in touch, please email us!

what about seeing who on SW has facebook?

I'm not sure I want my facebook horde to see my SW posts - I am more...frank?...here

Totally understand! FYI: If you link your accounts, you still get to choose, on a post by post basis, which things get published to Facebook. You'll see a little check box option on your workout/general post form. So, it's not all or nothing.

yeah, i don't want my mom to read all my posts! i've already gotten flack from friends....but i love the progress!

loving the progress... but conflicted cause I sorta like the "clandestine, special club" feel of SW... :-) Hey Oliver, next up: what about an iphone app so we can stay connected with SW 24-7 (addict that I am).

While I also applaud the progress, I hate Facebook with the red hot passion of a thousand suns. These two worlds of mine shall never meet. Twitter, on the other hand, is another story. I tweet about @socialworkout right and left. They're just different audiences for me. The twitter people are movers and shakers. The facebook folks are people I knew 15 years ago - most of them visibly worse for wear - and some stalker cousins.

WOW!! i was wondering about this, just yesterday.. bc s/o replied to one of my comments, and i missed it... there is no way to know if s/o replies to your posts, and that is one of the advantages of Facebook, but I agree with everyone, i like this small club and I do not want my other friends to know abt my workouts etc.. they won't understand.. but I will look into what Oliver said..
also I can't access Facebook at work bc my job blocks it. I can check at home though.. WOW!!!

I am a bit too private between real me and internet me to ever do this.
...which is why I should (and will) change my username soon. Is that possible?
Submitted by erikka on 02.04.10 at 04:58.
ooh yes, I would also like to change my username if possible, please.

This is not good. Worlds are colliding! George is getting upset! LOL...

I should probably change my user name too; it was so off the cuff, back in the cub days of SW.
I kind of feel like Facebook is so yesterday. And I'm w/ Zuzu, it seems like they're mostly people who I went to H.S. w/ & this is the first I've been in touch with them, now that we all look like each other's moms. (I did post on Facebook that I won, though; you could say Facebook is meant for SW.)

"George is getting upset!" Haha, I actually lol-ed at that one. I'm such a nerd :(
I also have to say that most of my friends don't really understand my love for the gym. They think it's insane that I try to go every day so I don't discuss my workouts often and that is why I am LOVING SW! SW is all about working out! Fitness! Health! Challenges! Facebook...nat so much!

i'm down for this! i'll just have to edit my posts so my uber southern christian aunts and uncles and cousins don't start praying the hell out of me... sigh.

i agree with lovetospin..... the non-SW folks are going to think we are nuts...

Thank you for this good news. For sure many social workout users will really love it. So many sites have connected with this known social nerworking site, which is the Facebook. And here's another interesting site you can use to, called “service networking”, TaskRabbit is a brand new internet service in a few large cities. Anyone who needs help with a task can match up with somebody who has some extra time. TaskRabbit aims to be more reliable and safer than other online services.
