Running Manhattan with @HereNow

@herenow's playlist analysis

The artist formerly known as sneathd, now @HereNow, is a man of active mind and body, a connoisseur of the urban workout. Today he shares the tunes that inspire his various runs around Manhattan: "Maybe a lunchtime run over to the East River Park with some speed intervals on the running track.  Maybe around Central Park. Perhaps over to Riverside Park, and a run up the Hudson River. Did you know that the Hudson River is a fjord?" I didn't, in fact. I also didn't know how fresh Ganesh was (See track 9).  @HereNow's full text liner notes after the jump, but we've inlcuded his graphical liner notes in the image above, and as an Adobe PDF right here, suitable for framing....

[Ed note: iTunes, very uncooly, doesn't offer "Country at War" and "Black Funk Rex," but track them down and add them. You'll be glad you did].

  1. "Ever So Lonely," Sheila Chandra. Amazing Talent!!!
  2. "Country at War," X. Just a nice song.
  3. "Wild Dub," Generation X. They made some great songs. Billy Idol and I lived in the same apartment, him first.
  4. "Itchyoo Park," Small Faces. Brit Psychadelia!!!
  5. "Black Funk Rex," Pete Atkin. Lyrics by Clive James.
  6. "Mona," Quicksilver Messenger Service. Oldie but goodie.
  7. "Navras," Juno Reactor. Navras, composed by Don Davis and Juno Reactor, is the title of the end credits music from the soundtrack to the third installment of the Matrix trilogy, The Matrix Revolution. The lyrics of the song are taken from the Upanishads, with the chorus line: "asato ma sad gamaya/tamaso ma jyotir gamaya/mrutyor ma amritam gamaya." From ignorance lead me to truth/From darkness lead me to light/From death lead me to immortality.
  8. "TV Eye," The Stooges. Perfect Rocka nd Roll
  9. "Ganesh is Fresh," MC Yogi. MC Yogi is great. I've seen him perform twice this year.
  10. "Let's Dance To Joy Division," The Wombats. This is fun. I discovered it on a free iTunes download.
  11. "Love Will Tear Us Apart," Joy Division. Perfect Rock and Roll.
  12. "Johnson to Jones," Waco Brothers. Best live band ever.
