Your Playlists
Spindig's Plank Playlist
Many a playlist will get you through a mind-numbing hour of cardio. But rare is the playlist that truly focuses your body for five intense minutes of action. Spindig has created that rare playlist. She's a feat-conquering machine, and now you can be too. Listen, focus, hold, repeat, and work your way up to full-five-minute plank nirvana with her specially selected tracks. Plus: Bonus tunes for hula hooping, yoga, and mountain climbing feats. Spindig's full liner notes after the jump.
Spindig's Plank Playlist with Bonus Tracks
- "Ramble On," Led Zeppelin. Week 1 plank. Maybe it's a little over-optimistic timing the first plank with a 4 1/2 minute song. Maybe it helps to go with time tested clichés, get the lead out and hang in there.
- "(We Don't Need this) Fascist Groove Thang," Heaven 17. Week 2 plank. History lesson lefty lyrics + multi-layered rhythmachine = excellent distraction
- "New Sneakers," Deerhoof. Week 3 plank. Plank in attention to this anthem to gym gear. "Sneakers are new and fit so well / Skipping all over with these shoes / O speed."
- "Elastic Girl," Kahimi Karie [Ed. Note: track unfortunately not available on iTunes]. Week 3 plank, continued. Afterparty of previous song. Super superhero, name your game, animation or animé? How many limbs can you hold off the floor while holding your plank?
- "Kikyo," Quarks. Week 4 plank. Every workout should include at least one birdsong, imho.
- "Little Man, What Now?" Morrissey. Week 4 plank, continued. This one takes the reverse psychology approach. Unrelated, the guitar reminds me of that crazy zither in The Third Man.
- "Pig Will Not," PJ Harvey & John Parish. Week 5 plank. The Angry Young Plank.
- "A Violent yet Flammable World," Au Revoir Simone. Week 6 plank. Here is your 5 minute plank, girl group style. Around minute 4 when "Hold. Hold. Hold on..." comes in, you know you're there.
- "What's It All About?" Run DMC. This week's answer to "What Is Yoga?" Reminds me of my first yoga classes (Hamilton Fish, Ave C & Houston, early 90s) with ViniYogi Paul Alix who would emphasize that yoga should be practiced everywhere. Warrior poses.
- "I Found the F," Broadcast. Hula Hooping! I couldn't last a minute with anything that went faster than this.
- "Seeing other People," Belle and Sebastian. On deck for hula hooping. Cooled down with instead. This is also dance like Snoopy music, suitable for any part of a workout.
- "Sweetness and Light," Lush. Aspiring to be spry at high altitudes, this is my mood music for personal summer feats ascending mountains. Includes a banging-on-pots part to keep bears away.

Comments
The Quarks song is quite different (no birds!). Who knew these would play hard to get?
