Word of the Day
Orthorexia

- (via stu_spivacks's photostream.)
Orthorexia is defined as a “maniacal obsession with healthy
foods.” A typical orthorexic is terrified of junk food; she avoids fat,
tropical oils and sugars to the point, sometimes, of malnutrition and even
starvation. Orthorexics are obsessed with vegetables and beans and rice and pickled ginger; they frown on the mere plebian who might dare to sip a casual Cola on a hot summer night. The orthorexic might even yell and do a dive roll under the bed if she so much as peeps a Sun Chip from across a crowded room; she might stare deeply into your high-fructose corn syrup Vitamin Water with smug superiority while nibbling a leaf of kale. Being an orthorexic is rigid, un-fun and ultimately very scary. So if you fit the bill, just breathe— and eat a bite of cake.
